Youth 2020

In order to ensure young people’s place and influence in democracies, they must perceive themselves as being a part of and being able to influence society. This is the mission of Youth 2020. I have had the privilege to build a brand from the ground up that reinforces and spreads their vision.

Brand identity

Youth 2020 started off as a simple movement with a goal to increase awareness and influence for young people’s place in our future democracy. They needed a brand identity that was worthy of this mission, but remained youthful and playful to connect to their audience. I was brought on board to develop a complete brand and design package. Starting with a simple logotype, we have extended the system through illustrations and patterns, web, books, informational and expo materials and large format print.

Web Design

The movement needed an online hub to house and spread ideas, goals and information about their work. In addition to UX/UI design, I built their website on WordPress with the Avada theme so that anyone on the team could easily make and publish updates. The site has become a vital tool not only to organize important information and collect participant sign-ups but also to document and celebrate the organization’s progress.

Youth 2020 aims to ensure young people’s place and influence in democracy. Our vision is that young people feel involved in, can and must influence our society.

Photography

One part of Youth 2020’s marketing strategy is to work with influential people within youth movements in society. We set up portrait sessions with some of these people to ensure we had consistent and high quality images across campaigns. The photos were taken in studio conditions and edited to complement the illustrations. The result is a coherent look and feel across channels that strengthens and reinforces the brand’s identity.

Templates

For a large, distributed, grassroots organization like Youth 2020, the need for simple, well-functioning templates was a must. I designed them on Google Docs in order to allow them to utilize the suite of open source tools accessible to everyone, free of cost. It also enabled for easy collaboration while the organization was growing.
